Student Stories - PhD
Taro Okamura | PhD Candidate from Japan
I have experience in foreign direct investment, consumer goods procurement, product management and marketing, corporate strategy, competitive intelligence, investor relations, and ESG. With a Master's degree in Systems Engineering and an MBA, as I became involved in the field of sustainability, I knew I wanted to study in this area and pursue a PhD. ISM's flexible learning environment and high-quality education made it the best choice among other options for me to pursue my degree.
What has been your most memorable experience at ISM so far?
Professor Tobias de Coning's enthusiastic and heartwarming lectures have often touched my heart. These moments were among the most unforgettable and precious experiences I have had so far in my course of study.
How do you think ISM is helping you achieve your career goals?
It is not easy to balance work and family while completing assignments and making progress in the limited time available. Furthermore, the adversity of being in an environment so far away from ISM's home base in France teaches me the need for independence to work steadily and diligently toward our doctoral degrees; I consider it a battle against myself.
What are your future aspirations after completing your program at ISM?
While I would like to remain involved in the business world, I would also like to reach out more to the academic world. This is because business management education in Japan has grown in its own direction. As an ISMer, I want to establish an efficient learning environment that provides education from a more international perspective, especially for young people in Japan who want to learn more effectively and efficiently, grow their careers, and become leaders in their fields.
