ISM MBA alumnus John M. Laviter, founder of Northpoint Asset Management, Inc., was interviewed about how the discipline instilled during childhood helped shape his path to entrepreneurial success.

Laviter, who founded Northpoint in 2006 and grew it into a top-10 national competitor in the single-family residential property management industry, sold his company in 2023. In the interview, Laviter attributes much of his achievement to the rigorous training he received in Shotokan Karate.

Reflecting on his journey, he emphasized that discipline, developed through years of intense practice, was critical to his academic and professional resilience and focus. Laviter's story highlights the power of early character development in setting a foundation for success.
