Student Stories - DBA
Steven Lucas | DBA Candidate from the US
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My background is in finance with a focus on international development and foreign affairs. A few years ago, I did a career pivot to learn corporate finance practices strategically to explore an opportunity as a CFO in the future. During this process, I realized I wanted to stay active in learning international business concepts. When I came across the ISM DBA program, I thought it was an ideal fit with my background, and I wanted to expand my expertise in international business.
What has been your most memorable experience at ISM so far?
It’s a mixture of both the courses and personal relationships developed. The courses in the DBA program have been enlightening and challenging and have definitely stretched my thinking and improved my research practice. My colleagues who started their respective programs with me have been a joy to communicate with as we take similar classes from time to time. The encouragement and support have been a big help to me as I go through the program.
How do you think ISM is helping you achieve your career goals?
I think ISM’s research practices in my studies have added an additional skill set I can apply in my career that’s transferable across various industries, and I believe this will lead me to career opportunities allowing me to make a global impact.
What are your future aspirations after completing your program at ISM?
After completing my program at ISM, I hope to become an adjunct professor at a university teaching some form of international business curriculum. I also hope to continue to thrive in a career in international business in foreign policy relations or global professional basketball leagues.
